What is the Pura Mahadev Mandir History – How King Sahastrarjun Was Connected With The Story?
Once upon a time, there was a King Sahastrarjun who humiliated sage Jamadagni and his family as he wanted to take their divine cow “Shusheela”. They had a big fight many times. Once Sahastrarjun asked Sage’s wife Renuka to visit his palace so that the dispute between him and Renuka’s husband can be sorted.
When Renuka visited Sahastrarjun’s palace, he tried to misbehave with her. Meanwhile, Sage Jamadagni was not happy with Renuka’s decision to go to the King’s palace.
Why sage Jamadagni Asked His Sons To Cut off Their Mother’s Head?
Upon returning to the Ashram, Renuka narrated the entire incident to her husband sage Jamadagni. But due to spending a night in another man’s palace, the sage instructed his four sons to behead their mother, but his sons refused.
Renuka repeatedly prayed to her husband that she is completely pure. However, the sage remained firm on his order.
Later, when the lord Parshurama returned back to the Ashram, sage Jamadagni took a promise from him to do whatever he will say. In order to obey his father’s orders, Parshurama cut off his mother’s head.

According to the Pura Mahadev History, the Original Pura Mahadev temple was built by lord Parshurama. There are two stories associated with the History of Shivalinga of Parshuram Mandir, Baghpat.
As per one legend associated with the Parshurama Temple Baghpat, Shivling of Pura Mahadev temple was installed by the lord Parshurama when he worshiped Lord Shiva after beheaded his mother.
Another legend described that the Pura Mahadev temple was built by Parshurama when he successively wiped out all the Kshetriya(s) and King Sahastrarjun. Lord Parshurama take the first Kavad here to atone for killing kshatriya(s).
Who Built The Present Pura Mahadev Temple Baghpat?
Where the establishment of the Shiva lingam was done by Lord Parshurama, a temple was also built there. Over the time, the temple turned into ruins. After a long time, one day, Queen Landaura went out for a walk, and her elephant stopped there.
Despite the efforts, the elephant was unable to move from there. Subsequently, the queen commanded the soldiers to excavate the area. During the dig, a Shiva lingam was uncovered, prompting the queen to erect a temple upon it.
That lingam and the temple built on it are famous today as Parashurameshwar or Pura Mahadev Temple in Baghpat, Western Uttar Pradesh.
